Player's 8’s vs Dealer's 10

The correct play in this situation is to split the 8's. Two hands of 8 are better than a single hand of 16. By splitting the eights you are giving yourself two decent starting hands as opposed to one aweful hand of 16. Splitting 8's will lose money in the long run but the losses will be less than the losses of not splitting.

Player's 12 vs Dealer's 2

This is the classic damned if you do, damned if you don't hand. If you hit and pull a ten you'll bust, if you stay you're going to be beat. However if we take a closer look we'll see that by hitting you actually have about a 70% chance of not busting. The same rules aplies if the dealer has a 3 as their face card but not if they have a 4 or higher.

Player's 16 vs Dealer's 7

It's a curious fact that most players when starting to play blackjack will Hit a 16 when the dealer is showing 10 because they figure that the dealer's hand has a 7 or better down, but won't hit the same sixteen when the dealer shows a 7 because they figure the down card couldn't be a 10.

It turns out that although you have the same chance of busting your reward for hitting against the 7 is greater. In simple terms hitting against a dealer's ten lowers your loosing potential from about 54% to about 52% but hitting against that dealers 7 lowers your loosing potential from about 48% to just about 40%.

Player's 11 vs Dealer's 10

Would you rather win $5 about 56% or the time or $10 approximately 54% of the time? The answer seems to be pretty self evidently. The risk associated with the $10 win is more than acceptable. To win the $10 you have to be willing to double down on an 11 when facing a dealer card of 10. Most players pass up this double down opportunity because they feel the dealer will have a 10 card down. The dealer has less of a chance to win in this situation then you do. So double down and enjoy the extra money.

Player's A,7 vs Dealer's 9

Would you hit a soft 18 when faced with a dealer's 9? No? Well your not alone. But lets look at it this way. If you stand on a soft 18 no matter the dealer's card you will win about 8 out of every 20 hands but if you hit until you get a soft 19 or hard 17 you would win about 9 out of every 20 hands.

Taking Even Money

Sure you are getting an even money payoff for no effort and there is nothing wrong with that right? Well in the long run that even money payoff is costing you about 4% in profits.
